University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Nursing (SON) – Galveston, Texas
Founded in 1890, the School of Nursing was the first nursing program in the Southwest and one of the first schools in the U.S. to be affiliated with a university in 1896. As a component of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), the school of nursing offers academic programs at the baccalaureate (pre-licensure BSN and RN-BSN), Masters (Family, Adult/Geriatric, Acute Care, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Leadership, Nurse Educator) and Doctoral Programs (DNP with BSN entry for Family, Acute Care and Nurse Anesthesia and MSN entry in all roles and PhD).

Department Chair for Undergraduate Programs – School of Nursing reports directly to the Vice Dean for Academics of the School of Nursing (SON). The Department Chair will be a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for overseeing the administration, strategic planning, and academic excellence of our undergraduate nursing programs. They will also focus on faculty professional growth, faculty workload and teaching assignments, support faculty scholarship, faculty recruitment and evaluation, promote student success, and participate in special projects to enhance the organizational culture and productivity for our esteemed faculty. This Chair serves as a leadership resource for the undergraduate academic programs housed in the department.

Minimal Position Requirements:

  • Doctoral Degree in nursing or related field. (MSN in Nursing is required) 
  • Eligible for or achieved rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Eligible for licensure or unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Significant experience in academic leadership, preferably within a nursing program.
  • A distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service in nursing education.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and curriculum development.
